North-South TAG (Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland)

The North South Technical Advisory Group was established in 2001. It was set up to provide technical advice and support on the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in relation to cross border waters in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland of the United Kingdom.

Three International River Basin Districts (IRBD) have been identified within the island of Ireland:

• Shannon
• Neagh Bann
• North Western.

This TAG is jointly chaired by:

•  the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government in the Republic of Ireland, and
• the Environment and Heritage Service in  Northern Ireland.

There are approximately 15 members who have the responsibility for implementing the Directive.
